This course will give students an introduction to topology optimization. Students will learn topology optimization concepts and will work with several hands-on exercises. Students will learn how to interpret and use topology optimization results. During the class, students will be exposed to industrial applications and examples.

Prerequisites

  • A basic knowledge of finite element analysis

Class Topics

  • Topology optimization concepts
  • Topology pre- and post-processing using Design Studio
  • Topology results visualization with Design Studio
  • Use of manufacturing constraints in topology
  • Use of symetries in topology
  • Comparing topology and other types of optimization, such as topometry and topography

  • The instructor will present teaching material and solve examples
  • Hands-on exercises will be solved by the students assisted by instructor
